Thanks to the HIPAA compliance journal for turning me on to an South Florida Business Journal article on Dr. Notes ransoming access to patient records of course the HIPAA journal article wondered if this was a violation of HIPAA!
The gist of the article is that when the provider stopped paying Dr. Notes a monthly subscription fee, the software denies access to the patient record.
Obviously no medical provider sees holding patient records ransom as a reasonable method for negotiating with a software vendor. However, the proprietary license involved allows this!
